Didja Notice?
On page 1, the police officer pats down
Professor Irving at the auto impound yard, saying, "You think
you can waltz in here and steal a car?" and Irving responds,
"Not exactly, sir, nor am I even capable of dancing in
three-quarter time." The waltz is a type of ballroom dance,
traditionally performed in triple (three-quarter) time.
On page 6, Joey tells Marty how he shoplifted a part from
Western Auto for Biff's DeVille. Western Auto was an auto
parts retailer in the U.S. from 1909-2003. There was a
Western Auto store in Hill Valley in 1955 and apparently
still existed in 1972. The shop was no longer in the old
location by 1985.
In
"Time Served" Part 1,
Marty had to cover for himself by claiming to Biff that he
was Calvin Klein's son. In the issue, he has to give his
name and chooses "Kevin", making him Kevin Klein. Although
the "Klein" is spelled differently, Marty is thinking of the
actor Kevin Kline, who has been active in the field since
1972.
On page 7, one of the police officers says the hippies are
probably so whacked out and hopped up they think they're in
Wonderland. This makes the hippy driver refer to the
officers' prey,
Professor Irving, as the White Rabbit. These are both references
to the 1865 novel Alice's Adventures in Wonderland
and the subsequent film and television adaptations.
On page 11, Joey finds a Robt. Burns cigar box wrapped with
twine at Mrs. Brown-Ellsworth's home. Robert Burns
(sometimes abbreviated Robt. Burns) is a real world brand of
fine cigars.
On page 17, Doc refers to his anti-gravity device
(previously seen in
"Hard Time" Part 3)
as an "inertial buoyancy displacement convector".
